Do you remember that moment as a child when you were so excited you could almost burst?!!! Counting down the days until tickets went on sale or until the day of something you had dreamed of forever finally arrived? That has been me watching both my daughter’s over the last couple of days.
My eldest is attending a convention on the weekend with one of her friends and they are just beside themselves with excitement. When the convention was announced and the tickets went on sale months ago, she had me glued to the computer to make sure we got those tickets. Together they have been counting down the days and when the tickets arrived in the post on Friday, she couldn’t wipe the ear-to-ear smile from her face. Every morning she tells me how many days are left until the big day and has a spring in her step and a sparkle in her eye that reminds me of those amazing, childhood feelings. I don’t think she is going to be able to sleep on Friday night knowing she is going to meet some of the cast the next day – I actually don’t think she is going to be able to sleep for days afterwards! God help me if she gets to hug one of the actors, she probably won’t wash for days!
Then there was my youngest who attended her first ever acting audition on the weekend (for an opportunity to attend the Premiere Performing Arts Program in Disney World Florida). Scheduling the audition over the phone was exciting enough (she bounced around the house for days), but when she made it through the first, on-the-spot elimination, even my tummy did a flip flop! I think she was even in a little bit of shock when we were invited into the next room for further information.
Then came the nervous, overnight wait to see if she received the call back and when she did, she said her tummy went on a roller coaster ride. She had made it to the Top 40 of over 1000 kids that auditioned and was invited back for a 2nd audition that evening!!! Watching her rehearse her script animatedly and enthusiastically with her dad and I was a moment I won’t ever forget. Her commitment and passion for what she loved oozed from head to foot and her bright blue eyes just radiated pure joy and determination. And although she wasn’t successful and was disappointed not to receive an invitation to the program, she awoke this morning to tell me she is going to audition again next year!
As an adult it’s easy to get caught up in life and forget that unbelievable, feeling of excitement and the thrill of embarking on something you so desperately want to do. I felt like that on our trip to the USA last month. I ticked off some breathtaking bucket list items (which I will share with you soon) and felt like a child again and what was even more brilliant was my kids recognised it, telling me I “was hilarious: and “looked like an excited child’ as we wandered around Disneyland.
So what are you waiting for? Find that thing, that moment, that experience and start bursting with excitement!
Until next time …
